About Me

Zama is a qualified Chartered Accountant with an Honours degree in Accounting from the University of Johannesburg (formerly Rand Afrikaans University). Her work experience has been mainly in development finance with notable skill in and exposure to due diligence, financial analysis, risk identification, risk mitigation, and portfolio monitoring. She has extensive deal-making and deal-structuring experience which started with vigorous training at the Industrial Development Corporation’s (IDC) Academy, which was followed by a grounding of skills as an Account Manager at the IDC. She is a Fund Manager at the National Empowerment Fund (NEF) in charge of uMnotho Fund which provides acquisition, new venture and expansion finance. She leads and manages a team of 15 investment professionals (an Investment Principal, Senior Investment Associates, Investment Associates and Analysts) in carrying out the mandate of improving access to capital by availing finance to black-owned entities. She has been entrusted to oversees the NEF’s Women Empowerment Fund which finances businesses that are majority-owned and managed by black females. She completed her articles at KPMG during which time she wrote and passed both qualifying exams at first attempt. She was quickly selected to become an Audit Manager within KPMG’s Information and Consumer Markets business unit where she led audit teams, handled fee negotiations and managed client relationships. It was during these years that she honed her accounting and auditing (internal control environment) skills which are critical for any business.

She has significant board and governance experience that was gained through ex-officio and external appointments. She is a member of the UCT Audit Committee. She serves on the board of SAICA and its Nominations Committee and Governance Committee. She is also a board member of DC Partner (Pty) Ltd, a leading payment distributing company. At the NEF, she is a member of the Fund Management Investment Committee, Management Committee, IST Steering Committee, Procurement Committee and the Portfolio Monitoring Committee.

Zama is the President of the African Women Chartered Accountants’ forum (AWCA). She is a member of CA Charter Council and a member of the BRICS Business Council-Financial Services Working Group.

Fund Manager - National Empowerment Fund

Oversee due diligence investigations in Manufacturing, Property Development (Tourism, Retail, Residential and Commercial), Construction and Materials, Agro-processing, Transportation, Audio-visual and broadcasting, ICT, Healthcare, Telematics Exposed to Retail, Franchising and Contract Finance as an Investment Committee member.


Develop business development strategies and plans and implement these.


Grow the reputation of the organisation within the BEE financing, private equity, Development Finance Institution (“DFI’), commercial bank, financial intermediary arenas.
